" Only those with no memory insist on their originality." - Coco Chanel
People can argue all day long that a certain designer is the most original, trendy, fashion forward, elegant, edgy, classy, and just all around this worlds' latest and greatest prodigy in the fashion world. In all actuality, not one person, trend, style or even idea, is an original. Everyone, every designer, every consumer, person that thinks she is going to change the world of fashion or start an new hit trend, has not come up with her own idea but yet and idea she thought up using borrowed inspiration. Madonna wore the cone bra, Michael Jackson wore the single sequined glove, Cher was sheer body suits and long, stick straight, middle parted, jet black hair, Brittany Spears was the Catholic school girl and Lady Gaga brought on a whole slew of ideas and really and truly made the word original her own. \
With that being said, when you are trying to find your "it" look and that one thing that makes you, YOU, I am not suggesting you go out and buy the first bustier you see, pair it with some hot pants and a fiercely jazzy sequined glove, but look around, draw ideas and inspiration. You see a person wearing something you love, REMEMBER it. Take that one thing, pair it with something you have always been known for and then hit the streets, the magazines or simply your own closet. Find inspiration in everything you do, see, live, watch, touch,
Fashion and inspiration are everywhere. Again, no new style, trend or fashion staple are ever thought completely out of the blue. They are all, each and every single one of them, drawn from someone, something or idea that has already been established. the way you interpret them will always make them yours.
Now, am I saying pair a full length sequin ball gown with fiercely spiked heals and a mink stole? A distressed denim button up chartreuse with an ostrich feather mini and triple platform over the knee boot with exposed zipper......MAYBE. I think all of those looks are beyond, and I personally can't wait to bust them out, but that's me. Not everyone will agree I am sure!
What I am saying for sure, is take one piece and make it yours. When I say no one is original pertaining to fashion this is the perfect example. You see someone walking along the street in a perfectly tailored black pencil skirt and matching blazer with a classic 4 inch double platform shoe. You think Office Chic. YES that she is, but I would look at her and think if I were going from a meeting to a nigh out how could I take these exact same pieces and turn them into 3 different looks that do not revolve around the office and meetings.
1. Crisp white collard shirt, black mini ( loosely and messy semi tucked in) and the classic 4 inch double platforms, paired with loads of FIERCE accessories.
2. Blazer, Skinnies, your classic 4 inch double platforms and the fiercest bag and jewels.
3. High waisted pencil skirt, classic 4 inch double platforms, a nice fitted tank, paired with a triple layer of double strand (preferably Chanel) pearls, a chain length Yerman and more menswear on the wrist than Coco herself would know what do to with.
Look around, read the magazines, and "steal" others looks. Just remember to always make them yours and unique. Get the idea and inspiration from someone and something but hen find a way to make tit your s.
